Ontario's Feed-in Tariffs Program:
The Ontario legislature has passed the Green Energy Act, which includes the first Feed-in tariff for electricity producers in North America. The microFit Program is design to encourage and support small renewable energy projects that are 10kW or less in generation capacity will benefit from the highest price $0.802/kWh. MicroFIT Application Process
The OPA has outlined the MicroFIT project development process on its website. You can download the official guid from OPA's website. AuroraBorealis Solar does all the works on behalf of our clients. Below is a summary of the key steps.
Step 1: Submitting an application
a. AB Solar will create "My microFIT homepage" on your behalf
b. AB Solar will file an application for your microFIT project
c. You will receive a conditional offer of microFIT contract from the OPA
Step 2: Obtaining electrical and building permits
a. AB Solar will discuss connection options with your local distribution company
b. AB Solar will submit a connection request form and our project plan to your local distribution company
c. AB Solar will obtain building permits from your local municipality if necessary
Step 3: Arraging financing and insurance
a. AB Solar will arrange financing for your microFIT project upon your request
b. You should make arrangement with your home insurance company for the addition of your solar system
Step 4: Installation of the solar system
a. AB Solar will install the solar system that complies with the domestic(Ontario) content requirements
b. AB Solar will arrange a safety inspection with the Electrical Safety Authority
Step 5: Accepting your contract offer
a. You will receive a microFIT contract offer notification from the OPA
b. You will receive a payment from your microFIT project
